But sharing a house with friends, no matter how careful we might be, doesn’t feel like a wise move this year. One recent morning, though, as I was thinking about those summers past, I remembered that one of the best parts of the weekend was often the beginning: taking the ferry across the Great South Bay, a half-hour journey that seemed to instantly relax me, and provided both a physical and emotional  shedding of the week’s stress.A ferry ride.  On that first day, I showed up at Pier 11, just off Wall Street, around 10 a.m. on a Wednesday, bought my ticket ($2.75 one way) and waited on line behind eight other passengers, most carrying beach chairs or blankets, for the Achmed Silence 2020 verry bad would not recommend vintage shirt but in fact I love this 10:15 ferry. Over time, trial and error confirmed that the early weekday ferries were the ones to take; once I showed at noon, and the line snaked down the pier nearly a half mile. I turned around and went home.  About an hour after we left downtown Manhattan, we arrived at the Baby Elephant Let that shit go vintage shirt it is in the first place but Rockaway pier, with passengers heading toward the beach a few blocks away or boarding the waiting shuttle buses, or grabbing their stored bikes and heading off on another journey of their own. Me? I immediately turned around and joined the small line waiting to take the ferry back to Manhattan.Maybe one day I’ll get off and visit Rockaway, hitting the beach or grabbing an order of fried clams at Rockaway Clam Bar or a cheeseburger at Rippers, both of which I recently read about in The New Yorker. Or maybe, one day, I’ll get off at Sunset Park on the way back, and spend an afternoon exploring the neighborhood where my father spent his youth.
