 I hope not. But I struggle with the I’m a grandma and a Packers fan which means I’m pretty much Perfect shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this word ‘hope.’ When I think of it as a rose-tinted state of escapism, I cringe. When I bring to mind that age-old cliche that ‘fashion is there to make us dream,’ it rings hollow; tinny; irresponsible to me in this age of nightmares. The only way I can make sense of it is to imagine: What kind of new dreams can fashion make realities? And whose dreams, anyway? That is the space which is now wide, wide open for fashion to reform itself.

 Last Saturday, the Harley Davidson Carlos Santana shirt besides I will buy this show went on for the Samuel Waxman Cancer Research Foundation’s 16th annual Hamptons Happening party. A virtual concert was hosted to raise funds for medical research with performances from the likes of Sophie Beem, Caly Bevier, and Rufus Wainwright. And for those attendees who wanted to make a full night of it, the SWCRF provided contactless deliveries of dinners and wine for up to 20 people (following CDC guidelines) to nearby Hamptons residences. Photography from the night, which circulated the next day, featured “attendees” in their homes and backyards dialed into the concert via a private URL link.
